About Us
Sintesia Animalia Indonesia
In 2017, our journey in combating the dog meat trade began through a remarkable collaboration with Animals Australia. This marked our inaugural partnership with Udayana University (UNUD) within the framework of the One Health initiative. Recognizing the significant risk posed by the dog meat trade, the government responded by issuing a Governor’s Circular Letter in 2017, highlighting the urgent need for further monitoring and study into the issue.
In 2019, we diligently mapped the legal landscape surrounding the dog meat trade, carefully examining existing laws and regulations relating to animal cruelty, a process validated by UNUD’s legal team. As a result, the Governor issued a Letter of Instruction to close down dog meat outlets, marking an important momentum in our efforts. Subsequently, a Task Force Team comprising members from the Police, Satpol PP, Agriculture Office, and village administrators was formed to oversee the enforcement of the Letter of Instruction.
Jumping into 2020, a significant milestone was reached with our meeting with Bali Animal Defender (BAD). Through the generous support of Animals Australia, BAD received funding for its annual operations and capacity building efforts. Most notably, we achieved a historic victory by successfully prosecuting the first animal cruelty case in Indonesia, using the Indonesian Criminal Code as our legal framework. This achievement confirms our unwavering commitment to upholding animal welfare and advancing justice in Indonesia.
